- I am frequently asked questions by parents who are interested in the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication, commonly referred to as “AAC”, for their child. This is not a simple question and is not always the right fit for a child or family. ASHA defines AAC “as the use of other methods to replace or support verbal communication”.
- A variety of options are available and an assessment to determine the right fit and need is imperative for long term success.
- The center for AAC and Autism provides frequently asked questions and answers for parents who are beginning to explore the use of AAC for their child. Integrating language learning and fine motor activities can be seen as a challenge at first, but many opportunities can be available for learning and growth.
- PrAACtical AAC support and Language Learning is a great place to get started.
